Novosibirsk residents warned about fraudulent schemes on the eve of Halloween
Ahead of Halloween, scammers are stepping up deceptive schemes with the sale of holiday costumes, tickets for themed events and virtual gifts for online gaming
The most popular method of deception is the sale and rent of holiday paraphernalia on phishing resources. The buyer finds a beautiful outfit or decoration at an attractive price, enters the card details on a fake payment page and eventually loses money without waiting for the goods. A similar scheme works in the services of private ads: fake sellers demand to transfer the deposit for renting a popular suit to a personal card, after which they instantly delete the account and stop communicating.
In parallel, scammers earn on the sale of fake tickets for thematic shows, concerts and masquerades. Invisible organizers promise a bright program with live music, but the exact address of the institution promise to send only after one hundred percent payment. Often, criminals simply copy the pages of famous clubs and bars, offering messengers "the latest discount tickets." The deception is revealed at the door of the institution, where deceived people with fake codes, of course, are not allowed.
But the most cynical scheme unfolds inside popular gaming platforms, where children are the main victims. In game chats, the child is promised to give a rare festive artifact or skins for the character, but in return they are asked to secretly take the phone of their parents, dictate a code from an incoming SMS or install a special application for remote access. In this way, criminals penetrate the mobile banks of adults, while they receive distracting messages on behalf of large marketplaces with an offer to pay for a penny delivery of the “Halloween surprise”.
Earlier, MK in Novosibirsk reported on fraudsters promising to quickly issue a passport.
