New explosion in the Strait of Hormuz: the IRGC reported a fire on a tanker
Another tanker collided with a sea mine while leaving the Strait of Hormuz, after which an explosion and fire occurred on the ship

Another tanker collided with a sea mine while leaving the Strait of Hormuz, after which an explosion and fire occurred on the ship. This was reported by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC), linking the incident with a violation of the order of passage through the strait established by Tehran.
According to the IRGC, the incident occurred on the afternoon of October 12. The tanker, according to the Iranian side, was moving along a route not agreed with the Iranian authorities and turned off navigation systems. As a result of the collision with a mine, an explosion occurred in the engine room of the ship, after which a fire began.
This is not the first such case in recent times. According to the IRGC, two more tankers collided with sea mines on October 10.
Earlier, the representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Mohebi, announced the introduction of a zone with restrictions for navigation east of the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, ships passing through the area must first coordinate the route with Tehran. Failure to comply with this requirement, the IRGC spokesman warned, would entail sanctions.
The situation in the region remains tense amid the unresolved conflict between Iran and the United States. On February 28, Washington and Israel began striking Iranian targets, after which Tehran responded with its own attacks. In mid-June, the parties signed a memorandum on the cessation of hostilities, but later the exchange of strikes resumed.
The military actions seriously complicated navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the key routes for the world supply of oil, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas. Amid disruptions in transportation, fuel prices have risen in many countries.
Information on the name of the tanker, its owner, possible casualties and the extent of damage is not provided in the IRGC statement.
