In Ipswich, Australia, a 28-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his three-month-old son. The infant died in hospital after days of treatment for severe internal injuries. Police are treating the incident as alleged domestic violence against a child.
The boy was taken to Ipswich Hospital on October 1. Doctors notified law enforcement officers because of the nature of the discovered injuries. The child was later transferred to Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane, where he was in intensive care. The baby died in the afternoon on October 6, ABC News reports.
On the evening of the same day, child protection officers detained the father at an address in Ipswich. The investigation also involves specialists of the unit that deals with the circumstances of severe injuries in children.
Police Inspector Mick Manago said the child had extensive internal injuries. Investigators are restoring events prior to hospitalization. The details of the alleged attack and the mechanism for the injuries have not been publicly disclosed.
According to Australian media reports, the defendant's name is Unib Ullah. His case was heard in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 7, with a further hearing set for October 26. At this stage, the court could not consider bail on murder charges.
