In the UK, Kenneth Newton and his partner, Melanie James, were given life sentences for the murder of 28-year-old Rubin Blount, a man in their care. Each must serve at least 21 years in prison. The Guardian reported the ruling on September 25.

Blount was Newton's half-brother and needed help due to intellectual disabilities. The court found that he had been ill-treated for months in a house in the city of Tamworth. The man was forced to stand for a long time, left without proper care and food. Newton and James also filmed videos of him being mocked.

When Blount was taken to the hospital, he was severely dehydrated and emaciated. He weighed about 40 kilograms.

Doctors found him to have pneumonia, a severe infection, and numerous injuries, including 50 rib fractures. He died on November 30, 2022, three days after his hospitalization. Appointing the punishment, the judge stressed that the convicts had abused the trust of the person they undertook to care for.
