Pensioners have created a memo on traffic rules after tragedies on the roads of Novgorod region
This week in the Novgorod region there were three accidents involving elderly pedestrians

This week in the Novgorod region there were three accidents involving elderly pedestrians. One of the women died. This was reported in the state traffic Inspectorate of the region. So, on October 28, the car hit an 80-year-old woman who was crossing the road in the wrong place. The next day, October 29, two more pensioners – 84 and 91 years old – suffered in an accident. The traffic police noted that it is more difficult for elderly people to quickly navigate the road and react to a dangerous situation. Therefore, the department prepared a memo for them on safe behavior on the streets.
Pedestrians are advised to cross the carriageway only on “zebras” and other established places. There, drivers wait for people in advance and have more time to brake. It is also not worth rushing on the road: it is safer to wait for cars to pass than to try to cross the flow.
At controlled transitions, traffic light signals must be observed. You can start driving on unregulated cars only after all the cars have stopped and drivers have noticed a pedestrian.
In the dark, older people are advised to use reflective elements. In autumn and winter, when it gets dark early, reflectors on clothes, bags or canes help drivers notice a person earlier.
Since the beginning of the year in the Novgorod region there were 92 accidents involving pedestrians. They killed 12 people, another 85 residents of the region were injured.
According to the traffic police, 68.5% of such accidents are the fault of drivers. In another 31.5% of cases, the cause was violations or negligence of pedestrians.
