The Supreme Court of the Australian state of Victoria sentenced 45-year-old Jethro Curtis to 24 years in prison for the murder of his uncle, jeweler Stephen Curtis

The Supreme Court of the Australian state of Victoria has sentenced 45-year-old Jethro Curtis to 24 years in prison for the murder of his uncle, jeweler Stephen Curtis. According to ABC News, he must spend 17 years without parole.
The attack took place on January 18 at the victim’s home in the city of Maffra. According to court documents, the nephew beat and strangled a 63-year-old man who suffered from Parkinson’s disease and had difficulty walking. Then he covered the body with a shower curtain.
The next morning, Jethro logged into his uncle's bank account and wired himself AU$5,500. After that, he left in the victim’s car, left it in an underground parking lot and continued the journey by train and taxi.
He told the taxi driver that he had killed a man and was going to jail. Relatives also received confessions. Police detained him two days later.
The court heard reports in which Curtis had spoken before the attack of wanting to kill his uncle. He claimed he suspected a relative of sexual assault, but Judge Rita Incherty said the allegations were unproven.
The court also disagreed with the prosecution's characterization of the murder as lynching.
