Alien fingerprints were supposed to help murder suspect disappear

In Sri Lanka, police detained a 45-year-old man suspected of assisting in the production of a fake passport for the main defendant in the murder of a lawyer and his wife. The arrest took place on October 7 in Minuvangoda. The operation was carried out by members of the crime unit of the southern part of the Western Province.

Investigators believe that the man provided his own fingerprints for issuing a false passport. Presumably, the document was intended for one of the main suspects in a high-profile double murder.

At the same time, law enforcement officers do not claim that the detainee was directly involved in the attack on the spouses. Its intended role is limited to facilitating the production of forged documents.

The crime, which police are investigating, took place on February 13, 2026. At around 16:50, Buddik's lawyer Mallava Aracci and his wife were in a car park in a supermarket in Akuregoda, in the Talangama police district.

Unknown people opened fire on the car. As a result, the spouses died. The shooting site was located about 700 meters from the Sri Lanka Defense Headquarters complex.

After the attack, police launched a large-scale investigation. In the following days, law enforcement officers detained several alleged participants in the crime, including two men who are suspected of directly carrying out the murder.

The new detention is connected with checking the possible preparation of one of the main defendants for leaving the country. Investigators are investigating how the fake passport was to be used and who else may have been involved in making it.

The double murder investigation is ongoing.
