Cherepovets police was contacted by a 22-year-old local resident who became the victim of a multi-stage fraudulent scheme. The young man not only lost all personal savings, but also issued large loans, the money on which he transferred to the attackers.
First, the victim called allegedly an employee of the Federal tax service and reported confusion in the documents, the press service of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Vologda region. When the young man refused to name the code from the SMS, he was switched to the so-called “safe robot”. Trusting the automated system, he dictated the numbers.
After that, the person decided that his account was hacked and called the number indicated in the phishing letter. The “Central Bank Operator” said that loans are issued on behalf of the young man. The only way to “save” the funds, he called independent registration of loans and their transfer to “safe accounts”.
Following the instructions, the victim issued loans in several banks, transferred all the funds received, and part of the amount withdrew in cash and handed over to the courier near the shopping center. In total, he lost 5.5 million rubles. In addition to financial losses, the young man spoiled his credit history and formed debts to relatives. On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was initiated under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
