Law enforcement agencies of Brazil arrested in the city of Salvador (Bahia) a Russian citizen who was on the international wanted list through Interpol. The arrest took place in the Aguas Claras area. Mash reports.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, at home, the man was sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking (when detained in Russia, 600 kg of prohibited substances were seized from him) and the use of forged documents.
The name of the defendant was not disclosed. Before his capture in Salvador, the fugitive had visited several other Brazilian states.
According to preliminary information, in Latin America, he planned to create a network for the sale of weapons, ammunition and drugs, trying to establish contacts with local criminal groups.
The operation to capture him was carried out by the Joint Organized Crime Unit of Bahia (FICCO) with the support of the military police.
The detainee has now been taken to the Federal Police Department. Brazilian authorities are preparing documents to cooperate with Russian judicial authorities and initiate extradition proceedings.
