Russian teenager died after drinking " cocktail " from a marketplace

Residents of St. Petersburg are demanding a comprehensive investigation into the mysterious death of a 16-year-old schoolboy. The tragedy occurred on September 15, 2024: the body of a young man who was fond of sports was found in a forest in Zelenogorsk. This is reported by the Russian newspaper.

According to the materials of the criminal case, which was reviewed by the publication, a week before his death, on September 8, the teenager ordered a food additive on the marketplace. According to a lawyer representing the family, the teenager may have confused the sports supplement with a chemical that has the same name – a toxic salt used in industry.

As follows from the official response of Rospotrebnadzor to the request of the lawyer, this salt belongs to the first class of extremely dangerous substances with a highly targeted mechanism of action. It causes severe damage to the central nervous system, liver and blood.

The substance is completely prohibited for retail sale, including on marketplaces. In the food industry, its turnover is strictly limited: it is used only as part of salt mixtures in a minimum concentration that is not capable of causing poisoning.

Despite these prohibitions, the teenager was free to purchase the chemical. On September 14, the order was calmly issued to him at the point of issue. The next day, the boy was found dead. Next to the body lay a thermal circle with the remains of the substance drunk.

The resort interdistrict investigative department of the GSU SK in St. Petersburg opened a criminal case. Relatives of the deceased and the lawyer seek to check the rules of storage and sale of chemicals in the warehouses of marketplaces, where the dangerous substance was in the same room with the goods of other customers.
