Light-engine aircraft Cessna Grand Caravan EX, carrying the values of the Central Bank of Ecuador, after an unsuccessful landing rolled out of the runway and was on a busy road in the city of Cuenca. According to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Ecuador, the incident occurred on October 8 at the Mariscal-La Mar airport. Two people on board survived.
The Cuencana Airlines plane arrived from Guayaquil. When landing, the pilot failed to stop the aircraft within the lane. The car rolled off the embankment, drove onto Urtado de Mendoza Avenue and collided with a lighting pole.
There was a pilot and another person on board. According to aviation authorities, both survived the accident and are in stable condition.
It was later revealed that the plane was carrying valuables from the Central Bank of Ecuador. The financial institution assured that the cargo is not damaged and remains under protection.
After the incident, traffic in the airport area was temporarily blocked. Firefighters, police and medics arrived at the scene.
The cause of the accident is being established.
