On Thursday, September 17, at about 19:55, on the 17th kilometer of the R-123 highway connecting Mostok, Dribin and Gorki, a tragic accident occurred. The 59-year-old driver of a Volkswagen car hit a 74-year-old pedestrian who, according to preliminary data, was crossing the road in the wrong place. This is reported by the UGAI of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian received injuries incompatible with life. It is important to note that the victim’s clothes did not have retroreflective elements, which significantly complicated his visibility for drivers in the dark.
The State Traffic Inspectorate draws attention to the need to comply with safety rules on suburban roads. Pedestrians are advised to move towards the traffic flow and use retroreflective elements to increase their visibility. Crossing the roadway should only be in designated places and making sure there are no approaching cars.
Drivers should take special care when driving on highways, especially near populated areas. It is also necessary to take into account weather conditions and choose the speed corresponding to the road situation.
