Five Myanmar nationals have been sentenced to 21 years in prison each in a human trafficking case that killed 26-year-old Belarusian model Vera Kravtsova. The girl was lured to the country by offering a high-paying job, after which she was in the center of Internet fraud. This was reported by the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB).
The verdict was handed down by a court in Mingaladon district in Yangon on October 1. The convicts were found guilty of recruiting and transporting a Belarusian to a fraudulent center, where she was forced to work and exploited.
Kravtsova flew from Bangkok to Yangon on September 20, 2025. In early October, she stopped communicating with her family. According to DVB, the court also issued arrest warrants for five more alleged perpetrators, three Myanmar nationals and two Tajik nationals.
Earlier, foreign media reported that the girl could be forced to engage in so-called romantic fraud – to meet men on the Internet and involve them in financial scams. Reports later emerged of her death, the alleged sale of organs and her body cremated.
According to the publication, the unknown demanded from the family Kravtsova 500 thousand dollars for the return of her remains. After refusing to pay, relatives were told that the girl’s body had been cremated. At the same time, officially law enforcement agencies did not confirm the version of murder and sale to organs.
