Died artist “Liquidation”, arrested for treason

In Moscow died 52-year-old Alexander Kondratov. He worked as a production artist for the series Liquidation and was in custody on charges of treason. The death was reported by the human rights project “First Department”.

According to the project, Kondratov died in Botkin hospital. He was brought there from the detention center on October 23. Why the man was hospitalized and what caused the death is not yet known. The Federal Penitentiary Service and the medical institution at the time of the announcement did not give official comments.

Kondratov was detained on May 5 at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport. He flew from Kiev to replace his passport. Since 2012, the artist lived in Ukraine, where his family remained.

At first, the man was brought to administrative responsibility several times. On August 5, a criminal case on treason was opened against him. Lawyer Natalia Tikhonova said that the basis for the charges were at least six publications on the Internet.

Kondratov worked for many years in the Russian and Ukrainian film industry. He is best known for his work on the series Liquidation, which was released in 2007. For this project, the artist received the TEFI television award and the Golden Eagle cinematic award.
