The police of Buryatia received several statements related to illegal access to computer information. Attackers are increasingly using hacked accounts in messengers to steal money and blackmail citizens, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Buryatia reported. Over the past day alone, 23 crimes committed using IT technologies were registered in the republic, the total material damage amounted to 338,972 rubles.
One of the cases occurred in Kyakhta district. A local resident viewed the videos in the messenger and clicked on the proposed links, as a result of which she unknowingly gave outsiders access to her account. On her behalf, scammers instantly sent messages to contacts asking them to borrow 15 thousand rubles. Two friends believed and transferred the money to these details. The total damage amounted to 30 thousand rubles.
In the Ivolginsky district, the attackers hacked the account of a local resident and sent his wife a phishing link with threats of mass mailing. The woman was then called and told that her husband was being held captive. At the same time, the scammers changed profile photos to intimate pictures stolen from personal correspondence of citizens.
Facts of hacking were recorded in Ulan-Ude. One local resident received a notice of unauthorized access to his account, but did not give it any meaning. Later, his relatives began to receive messages asking to borrow money, and the man lost access to the application. In another case, a citizen received a message from a neighbor with the question “Are you in the photo?”. The woman clicked on the attached link, after which the attackers gained access to her personal account on the portal “State Services”. Soon, the applicant began to receive notifications from microfinance institutions about the issuance of loans in her name.
Law enforcement officers remind of the need to be vigilant: do not follow dubious links even from acquaintances, check any request for money over the phone and be attentive to notifications about access to their accounts.
