Five people were rescued after a helicopter crashed into Lake Atitlán in southwestern Guatemala, and two more are still missing. This was reported by Diario de Centro América with reference to the volunteer fire corps.

According to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Guatemala, an Airbus Helicopters H130 helicopter with registration number TG-GUH took off from La Aurora International Airport at 12:11 local time. There were 7 people on board.

The aircraft was heading for a hotel on the northern shore of the lake. The flight should have taken about 30 minutes. The crash occurred in the Panajachel area between approximately 12:35 and 12:48.

Five passengers were rescued, according to preliminary data, they were not injured. The whereabouts of two more people have not yet been established.

Rescuers and divers are involved in the search operation. They were also joined by local boatmen. The helicopter is underwater at a depth of several meters.
