Since the beginning of the year in Kazan recorded 12 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. They killed two people and injured 15, writes “Tatarstan 24”.
The main reason lies in outdated houses, mostly built in the 1950s, with gas pumps, especially in those where the equipment is installed in bathrooms. The sealing of housing with modern windows and doors, designed to improve heat and sound insulation, can disrupt the necessary airflow for safe combustion of gas, turning even serviceable equipment into a source of danger.
Carbon monoxide, invisible and imperceptible, is formed by incomplete combustion. Symptoms of poisoning include headache, nausea, coordination problems, and loss of consciousness. Changing the color of the flame of the gas burner from blue to yellow or orange is a signal of malfunction. If poisoning is suspected, you should immediately leave the room, call an ambulance and report a malfunction of gas equipment to the service 104.
It is important to remember that gas stoves are not designed for heating. While city services are taking action, vigilance and strict adherence to gas appliances are key to preventing tragedies.
