In the Lipetsk region, convicts for a bribe of a million dollars were appointed additional fines

Two convicts in the case of the transfer of a bribe in the amount of $ 1 million increased the punishment. The Lipetsk Regional Court reviewed the sentence after a complaint by the prosecutor's office and ordered Roman Shevyrin and lawyer Sergei Kononchuk to pay fines equal to the amount of a bribe. This was reported in the Prosecutor’s office of the Lipetsk region.

The story began in 2023. Kononchuk tried to achieve the termination of operational-search measures to investigate the theft of property of customers of the Lipetsk branch of one of the banks. For this, the lawyer offered law enforcement $1 million in the interests of his client Shevyrin.

In March 2024, Shevyrin brought money to the agreed place and handed over a bag with almost a million dollars to employees. The transfer took place under the supervision of the FSB and the economic security and anti-corruption unit.

The Dankivsk city court sentenced Shevyrin to 10 years and 6 months in prison, and Kononchuk to 9 years in a strict regime colony. The lawyer was also banned from practicing law for four years.

The prosecutor’s office considered that the sentence lacked an additional penalty in the form of a fine, and appealed the decision. The regional court upheld this demand: now each convict is fined $ 1 million.
