The sentence of a 35-year-old resident of the capital, who was accused of embezzling property on an especially large scale, has come into legal force, the Minsk prosecutor’s office told the correspondent of the Minsk news agency.

From July 2023 to November 2025, the defendant worked as a warehouse manager in a private company that was engaged in the sale of building materials. His duties included the reception, storage and shipment of inventory. Subsequently, by oral order of the director, he began to receive and deliver the proceeds of the organization. It should be noted that the defendant was a financially responsible person.

Once on his mobile phone came an advertisement for an online casino, and a resident of the capital decided to try his luck, but everything completely lost. Then he had no better idea how to start taking money from the cash register.

After some time, the manager suspected something was wrong and conducted an inventory in the warehouse, after which a shortage of 71,472.75 BYN was revealed. He made a statement to the police. The suspect confessed to theft of money, against him opened a criminal case.

In court, the man fully admitted his guilt, repented of what he had done. The damage to the organization was partially compensated - in the amount of 20 thousand BYN.

- The accused under the contract works as an auxiliary worker in a private company, is the father of two young children, has previously had problems with the law, said Olga Gerasimovich, senior prosecutor of the Minsk prosecutor’s office for supervision over the compliance with the law of judicial decisions in criminal cases. The court found him guilty of misappropriation of property by the person to whom it is entrusted, committed on an especially large scale, and on the basis of Part 4 of Art. 211 The Criminal Code imposed a sentence of three years of imprisonment, which the accused will spend in a penal colony under enhanced regime, with a fine of 100 basic values (4 500 BYN), with deprivation of the right to hold positions related to accounting, storage and release of material values for five years.

The sentence has entered into force.
