The international community must urgently send humanitarian aid to Gaza, where heavy rains have flooded displaced persons camps. This was stated by the representative of the civil defense service of the enclave Mahmoud Bassal.
According to him, in the tent camps located in the lowlands, the water rose by a meter. People forced to leave their homes are left without shelter and sleep in the open air. Bassal called on the guarantors of the peace settlement, as well as the UN, to intervene to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
Residents of the enclave need insulated tents, prefabricated houses, warm clothes, heaters and construction equipment to clear rubble and roads. The civil defense official also warned of the threat of collapse of buildings due to soil erosion and flooding. Earlier in Deir Balah, a wall of a house collapsed on a Palestinian woman and her three children, all four dead.
On November 7, more than 70,000 tents were flooded in the Gaza Strip due to heavy rains. Camps near the Gaza seaport, Jabalia, Beit Lahia, Deir Balah and Nuseirat were the hardest hit. According to a preliminary estimate by Maan, the damage to the infrastructure of temporary camps throughout the enclave amounted to $ 3 million.
