The FSB of Russia in the Smolensk region together with the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs suppressed the illegal activities of a 25-year-old resident of Smolensk. He organized the work of a shadow web resource, which from July 2022 to May 2026 was used to remotely hack and sell other people’s accounts in various Internet services and instant messengers.
For mercenary reasons, the attacker not only hacked personal accounts of citizens in popular online platforms, but also sold them along with tools to bypass security systems. The acquired data allowed service customers to anonymously log in to the digital space under false names, bypassing official identification procedures.
According to the materials of the Federal Security Service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, a criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 274.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Organization of activities for the transfer of information necessary for registration and (or) authorization of the Internet user”). The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to 3 years imprisonment. Currently, law enforcement agencies conduct a complex of investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the crime and identify possible accomplices.
