In the United States identified the body of a missing soldier in 1981

US investigators have identified the remains of a US Coast Guard officer discovered off the coast of New Jersey 45 years ago. The identity of the deceased was established thanks to modern DNA analysis technologies. This is reported by the publication People.

The body was found in the open ocean on May 22, 1981. At that time, law enforcement agencies were unable to collect enough evidence and identify the deceased, even with the help of then available methods of genetic examination. Identification became possible only in October 2026.

The remains belong to Glenn Napoleon Burbage, who served in the US Coast Guard. In March 1981, the man arrived in New Jersey, took his luggage from the airport and disappeared without a trace. On March 23, 1981, he was officially declared missing.

Despite the identification of the deceased, the circumstances of his death remain unknown. Police do not yet know what happened to Burbage. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
