The U.S. National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning after the quake in the Panama area. A tsunami threat exists for the western American continents from Mexico to Peru.
According to the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama, the magnitude of the earthquake was 7.2. Tremors were recorded at 12:56 local time. The hearth lay at a depth of four kilometers, and the epicenter was 39 kilometers north-west of Tonosi. After that, seismologists recorded several strong tremors, including on land and in the waters south of the country.
Tocumen International Airport in Panama temporarily stopped working after an earthquake of magnitude 7.2. This was reported by the airport administration. As a precautionary measure, passengers are evacuated. Flights to Tocumen are directed to other airports.
Earlier it was reported that in six provinces of Panama lost electricity after the earthquake.
