The guilty in the death of 6 people at the pumping station in Volgograd commuted the sentence

Earlier, a criminal case was initiated against the former chief engineer of the company “Concession of Water Supply” under articles on violation of labor protection requirements and safety rules during construction work, which resulted in the death of people by negligence. The defense side in the cassation appeal insisted on the complete termination of criminal prosecution due to the lack of corpus delicti or on the cancellation of the decision of the appellate instance in terms of toughening the punishment.

Having studied the materials of the case, the court of cassation took into account a new mitigating factor, establishing that one of the deceased masters was negligent in the performance of official duties. In this regard, the court reduced the sentence for the incriminated articles.

On the set of crimes by partial addition, the final verdict was 4 years 9 months of imprisonment with serving in a colony-settlement. Also, the convict for 3 years was forbidden to engage in activities on organization and control in the field of labor protection at hazardous facilities. All other arguments of the lawyers were completely rejected by the court.

The tragic events at the sewer pumping station No. 4 in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd occurred in July 2024. Then as a result of the accumulation of gases from suffocation, one of the workers died, and the next day during the reconstruction work, five more people died because of a powerful explosion. The state prosecution initially asked for a sentence of 8 years and 6 months in prison for the head.
