Detained " freelance employee" telephone fraudsters

Saratov criminal investigation officers detained another participant in the telephone fraud scheme, who acted as a courier. The basis for the proceedings was the statement of a 77-year-old resident of the Kirov district, who suffered from the actions of scammers. According to the pensioner, on May 25, an unknown person called her and, under the pretext of undergoing a medical examination in the clinic, asked her to name a code from an SMS message. After the woman provided the requested information, she was contacted by an “employee” of the law enforcement agency.

The caller informed the victim that her data was seized by attackers and on her behalf made a power of attorney for the disposal of all property. To prevent the use of savings by unauthorized persons, the false security officer proposed to declare the savings and transfer them to a freelance employee. Trusting the interlocutor, the woman at the house on the street Rakhova gave a stranger 450 thousand rubles.

As a result of the activities, operatives identified and detained a courier who worked for fraudsters. He was a 21-year-old previously unconvicted resident of Moscow. The young man explained that he was also informed about the hacking of State Services and criminal prosecution for the transfer of personal data. In order to avoid liability, the false representatives of the law enforcement agency offered him to become a freelance employee and take money from citizens.

A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The investigation is ongoing. Operational measures and investigative actions are carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
