Chile has detained an alleged supplier of ammunition to criminal groups, who used the status of a sports shooter for the legal purchase of ammunition. Since 2025, the man has purchased 17,250 rounds of ammunition, although he has never attended a shooting club or participated in training. This was reported by TV channel T13 with reference to the investigative police.

The investigation lasted six months. Police found that six weapons were registered on the suspect. According to the investigation, he resold the purchased ammunition to criminal groups of the capital region. Sometimes customers would pay him with drugs.

Operation Vector was conducted on November 4. After observing the suspect, police officers simultaneously searched three sites in the Cerro Navia, Estacion Central and Renca districts.

During the searches, 1,034 rounds of ammunition, two pistols, converted signal weapons and seven stores were seized. In addition, law enforcement officers found drugs and documents related to arms trafficking.

The head of the police unit Christian Sepulveda said that two weapons registered for the main defendant, was able to link the results of the study of traces of shots with investigations of violent crimes. Among them was an attempted murder case.

In total, police detained four people, including three men and a woman. They were charged with trafficking in arms, ammunition and drugs.

The court placed all the accused in custody.
