Canadian woman found guilty of killing three-year-old son of his girlfriend

A Canadian woman has been found guilty of killing her friend's three-year-old son. A child died in the toilet of a child protection building in Toronto, Global News reported on October 10.
According to the newspaper, the woman looked after the boy over the weekend and took him to the institution, where her own son was supposed to meet with relatives under the supervision of specialists. At some point, she started beating up the ward. The boy died the next day in hospital.
The guard noticed an injury on the forehead and offered to call an ambulance, but the woman refused. Later examination established that the cause of death was a traumatic brain injury. According to the prosecution, about 40 injuries were found on the head and neck of the child.
At the court hearing, the parents of the deceased told how they are experiencing the loss. The boy's mother admitted that it is difficult for her to come to terms with what happened.
The prosecution seeks a sentence of 18 years in prison, while the defense asks for a limit of 15 years. Lawyers cite the woman's unstable mental state and alcohol problems.
The perpetrator admitted responsibility for the death of the child, but stated that she did not intend to kill him. The final verdict is expected on October 23.
