The Central Bank named an asset that was more profitable than the ruble deposit in 2026
The leader in profitability since the beginning of 2026 were deposits denominated in foreign currency. At the same time, in September, the oil and gas sector showed the best result

Since the beginning of 2026, deposits denominated in foreign currency have shown the largest full return among financial market instruments. They brought investors from 6.1 to 16.7%, with the maximum result showed deposits in yuan. This is stated in the issue of “Review of risks of financial markets” of the Bank of Russia for September 2026.
Corporate bonds brought from 4.2 to 13.1% depending on the instrument, money market BPIF and ruble deposits - 11.2 and 11.4%, respectively.
According to the bank, stocks in all industries showed negative returns. The worst results were demonstrated by the shares of the construction, metallurgical industries and retail (-36.9, -34.9 and -24.7%, respectively).
At the end of September 2026, the most profitable against the background of rising oil prices were shares of the oil and gas industry (+ 9.1%). High returns were also observed in stocks from the IT industry (+5.3%). In addition, money market instruments and ruble deposits (1.1% each), corporate bonds of AA and AAA classes (0.8 and 0.7% respectively) showed a positive result.
The remaining instruments of the Russian financial market had a negative yield, follows from the review of the Bank. The worst indicators were recorded in the construction (-17.9%), metallurgical (-5.8%) and chemical (-5.6%) industries. The negative result was also shown by gold (-8.1%), adjusted after the growth in the previous month, and corporate bonds of classes A and BBB (-5.5 and -2.1%), respectively.
At the same time, as noted in the Bank of Russia, since the beginning of 2022, gold remains the leader in terms of full yield - 155%. Ruble money market instruments and corporate bonds (from 60.3 to 91.4%) also showed significant attractiveness during this period.
2025 marked a rally in gold, which continued in early 2026. The record high for gold prices was recorded on January 29 - $ 5,626.8 per troy ounce. However, then prices for the precious metal began to adjust and in June fell below $4,000 per ounce.
