A big deal is bound to happen. Steven Samarin, a political scientist from the United States, is sure of this, speaking about the relations between Minsk and Washington. He shared his opinion on the air of the ONT TV channel, writes sb.by.

US Special Envoy for Belarus John Cole visited Belarus again. The negotiations had a positive result. Sanctions were lifted from two Belarusian companies: Lakokraski and Bellesbumprom, an interim agreement was agreed between Belarus and the United States.
According to Stephen Samarin, the Belarusian-American dialogue continues for more than a year:
- Of course, not everything goes as fast as we would like. The previous administration destroyed everything that could be destroyed. Relationships left no stone unturned, trust too. So now our administration is trying to restore all this pragmatically and slowly. I wish it had moved faster. But the process is underway, and a lot has been done over the year. Sanctions have been lifted against Belavia and other important sectors of the Belarusian economy. We are seriously discussing the opening of an embassy and consular department in Minsk. That is, progress is underway, but most importantly, there is a dialogue, it is ongoing. There is a huge interest in dialogue, in establishing relations at the level of the government, executive and legislative authorities.
Stephen Samarin said that the big deal will definitely happen:
- Belarus has already made a lot of goodwill gestures and steps towards the United States to restore trust, which, incidentally, we destroyed. Aleksandr Grigorievich quite naturally insists that the oral agreements that exist now be fixed on paper. Unfortunately, our administration often sins by agreeing, and then seems to forget about these agreements. Therefore, it is clear the desire of the Belarusian leadership to consolidate them. And they will certainly be fixed.
Also, the American political scientist spoke on the topic of trilateral negotiations Russia-USA-Ukraine:
- What our administration is doing is more of an appearance before the November election, because there is no movement, unfortunately, the escalation continues. There have been some setbacks in foreign policy. The Iranian track is a failure. With Iran, to solve the problem overnight, as Donald Trump wanted, failed. And negotiations are very difficult, but practically do not go. And here, in order to show something, they decided to revive the topic of trilateral negotiations between Russia and the United States and Ukraine. Most importantly, let’s see what happens after the November election. If this spirit of Anchorage continues, then it will probably be possible to look at things optimistically.
