“Preparing for war so that it does not exist”: why Europe today resembles the end of the 1930s and what is the relevance of September 17
How the strengthening of right-wing sentiments in Europe and the pumping of European countries with weapons are connected with the preparation of society for a possible conflict – on the air of ONT.

Historian, Director of the Institute of Systems and Strategic Analysis (Russia) Andrey Fursov on the air of the talk show “Objective No” on ONT said that the current international situation in many ways resembles the situation of the late 1930s. Against the backdrop of the right-wing turn in Europe and rising military tensions, historical lessons related to preparing society for a possible conflict remain relevant.
“They sound so relevant because in many ways the situation is reminiscent of the late 1930s,” Fursov said.
He noted that in recent years, right-wing sentiments have been growing in Europe. As an example, the publicist cited the statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the Nazi regime and the results of polls in Italy.
“Even 10-15 years ago, no one could have imagined that the head of the Federal Republic of Germany would say the phrase: Hitler’s regime is better than the AfD, because Hitler expressed the interests of the German people,” Fursov said.
According to him, European society is noticeably “right”, which may be associated with the preparation of the population for a possible war.
30% of Italians, according to polls, are ready to accept a fascist regime like Mussolini. Europe is sharply ruling, the historian said.
Fursov stressed that any historical analogies are limited, but the current situation, in his opinion, really evokes associations with the pre-war period.
He also drew a parallel between the actions of the United States on the eve of World War II and the current policy of Washington. According to him, the American administration was interested in increasing tensions in Europe, and the United States’ exit from the economic crisis was ensured by war.
In the late 1930s, Roosevelt did everything to provoke conflict in Europe. He needed this in order to finally solve the problems of the United States, Fursov said.
According to Fursov, today Washington is once again strengthening the military potential of European countries.
Today, Trump is creating a situation, pumping weapons into Europe. By the way, American corporations did the same thing: they pumped weapons into Europe – both Germany and the Soviet Union.
