Igor Tur: Belarus needs to prepare for future without President’s decisions

President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly made decisions that helped to preserve the unity of Belarusian society in difficult times. But the country needs to think now about how to ensure stability and sovereignty in the future, ONT political observer Igor Tur said in a new issue of the Propaganda project.

The question of the country's future

According to Tur, the question of the future of Belarus after the first President worries Alexander Lukashenko. The observer believes that it is important for society not to reject this topic, but to learn to make decisions independently and take responsibility for them.

“Lukashenko does not leave today or tomorrow, but no matter how much we drive away this idea, it will happen someday,” he said.

According to the author of the project, the President had to make decisions almost alone during the coronavirus pandemic, the political crisis of 2020 and after the start of a special military operation.

“Three times in these situations, everything was taken over by the President, three times we as a society did not understand everything in the moment, three times part of the Belarusians were, let’s say, do not quite agree – and not three times made a mistake, in order to admit the erroneousness of their opinions after the fact three times,” he said.

Unity as a guarantee of sovereignty

In each of these periods, Belarusian society was divided, and the preservation of internal harmony allowed to avoid a more difficult scenario.

Attempts to divide the Belarusian society, in his opinion, have not stopped. Therefore, citizens need to strengthen political and geopolitical literacy in order to assess threats and make responsible decisions in the future.

“With a strong president, the people as the bearer of power also need to become stronger – the people as a whole,” he said.

At the youth forum “Youth”. Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko said that the country will have to withstand the global transformation of the world.

“I just warn you as the future leaders of the country, who need to ensure sovereignty and independence,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Are you able to keep the country?”

Aleksandr Lukashenko earlier stressed that the government in Belarus entrusted him with the people and urged citizens to be ready to take responsibility for the future of the state.

“The only question is, can you take a country today and hold it? If you can, start tomorrow. To be honest, I cannot yet answer this question positively, the Head of State said.

According to Igor Tur, the readiness of society to such responsibility remains the main issue for Belarus. To save the country, he believes, can only be if the unity of the people.
