Natalia Kochanova held talks with the Chairman of the Council of Nations of the Parliament of Algeria
Belarus and Algeria aim for trade turnover of half a billion dollars. We plan to develop direct regional ties.

Belarus and Algeria set a common goal - to achieve trade turnover of $ 500 million, said the Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova during a meeting with the Chairman of the Council of Nations of the Parliament of Algeria Azuz Nasri. The meeting took place within the framework of the official visit of the Belarusian delegation to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the press service of the Council of the Republic reported.
The talks were also attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich, as well as representatives of various ministries, departments and leading Belarusian enterprises.
The official start of negotiations took place in the format of a trust meeting of the heads of the upper houses of parliaments. The key priorities of the bilateral agenda were discussed in a narrow circle and positions on the most sensitive international issues were coordinated. After that, negotiations continued in an expanded format with the participation of members of delegations.
Natalia Kochanova stressed that the historic visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Algeria in December 2025 was a powerful impetus for strengthening interstate relations.
The speaker noted that parliamentarians and the executive branch immediately began implementing the provisions of the joint statement and the roadmap for cooperation.
The President of our country has repeatedly noted that Algeria is the global gateway to Africa. The potential of our countries is huge, and in the coming years we must reach the level of trade turnover of $ 500 million. We are ready to develop industrial cooperation projects, supply high-quality machinery and food products, cooperate in the field of pharmaceuticals and strengthen direct contacts between the regions, said Natalia Kochanova.
Chairman of the Council of Nations of Algeria Azuz Nasri expressed the warm welcome of the Belarusian delegation, stressing the strength and durability of friendly relations between the two states.
Algiers is committed to comprehensive development of trade and economic ties with Belarus, support of mutual trade and effective cooperation.
“Only by moving on the right path and joining forces, we will definitely get a high practical result for the benefit of our peoples,” he said.
During the talks, the President of the Council of the Republic discussed in detail the main aspects of practical cooperation between the countries. It covered a wide range of issues, including food and pharmaceutical security, as well as the development of direct links between regions and youth policy.
Belarus is a socially oriented state with highly developed agriculture and pharmaceutical industry. Our food exports have reached impressive levels – in addition to fully supplying our own market, we are able to feed three more countries like ours. We are ready to supply Algeria with high-quality agricultural machinery, food products, as well as a wide range of domestic medicines. In turn, the Belarusian side will be ready to work out counter proposals for the import of Algerian fruits, dates and other products. Cooperation should be absolutely mutually beneficial, the speaker stressed.
Special attention was paid to the creation of horizontal ties between the regions of both countries and the development of public diplomacy.
“As a chamber of territorial representation, we attach particular importance to building direct contacts between the provinces of Algeria and the regions of Belarus. It’s people’s diplomacy that always gives a powerful result. Equally important is the vector of public relations - through women's and youth organizations. The Youth Council is successfully functioning at the Council of the Republic, and we are sincerely interested in the fact that the youth of our countries actively communicate, be friends and deeply know the history of their countries, the speaker noted.
Natalia Kochanova noted that three decades of official diplomatic relations have laid a solid foundation for the transition to comprehensive economic cooperation. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic focused on practical actions to implement interstate agreements.
Natalia Kochanova highlighted the pharmaceutical industry and direct production cooperation as promising areas. The Belarusian pharmaceutical industry produces more than 1,600 types of medicines, and the deepening of cooperation between the regions of Belarus and the provinces of Algeria will be an important factor for concluding new trade agreements.
Azuz Nasri stressed the importance of turning high levels of political trust into concrete economic outcomes. He noted that Algeria views Belarus as a reliable partner and seeks to expand trade ties.
We see a serious industrial and agricultural potential of Belarus and are sincerely interested in developing deep cooperation. “The Algerian side is committed to providing all possible assistance to any initiatives that will bring real economic benefits and benefits to our countries,” he said.

Azuz Nasri stressed the importance of parliaments in creating favorable legal conditions for business and revitalizing business life. The speaker of the Council of Nations emphasized that comprehensive and consistent implementation of the roadmap will help companies to quickly conclude real contracts.
“Parliamentary dialogue should provide a solid backbone for business. We are ready to provide full legislative assistance to increase commodity flows, develop industrial cooperation and build long-term economic ties, he said.
