From common history to new horizons – the Council of the Republic held a meeting with the President of Mongolia

After a meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh arrived at the Council of the Republic, where he held talks with the leadership of the National Assembly of Belarus. Chairman of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives Natalia Kochanova and Igor Sergeenko substantively discussed with the Mongolian leader inter-parliamentary cooperation, humanitarian cooperation and unity of positions on key issues of the international agenda, the correspondent of sb.by reports.

- Today, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is celebrated next year, we understand that our relations have always been not just friendly, but fraternal. The visit of our President to Mongolia, which took place in 2024, can be called historic. We also consider your visit to our country historic. Following the talks with the Head of State, a number of documents were signed that will promote our cooperation, including a roadmap for 2027-2029.

The speaker of the Council of the Republic made a special emphasis on inter-parliamentary cooperation. On the eve of the meeting, the second meeting of the inter-parliamentary group “Friendship” of Belarus and Mongolia was held. In this regard, Natalia Kochanova reported:

- We parliamentarians are actively involved in the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level. First of all, the implementation of measures planned by agreements and treaties. We will send an invitation to our colleague, the chairman of the Great State Hural, to visit our country and get acquainted with our enterprises and our country for further cooperation.

Over the years of fruitful cooperation, Minsk and Ulaanbaatar have come a long way, forming a solid foundation based on mutual respect, trust and coincidence of key foreign policy priorities. Natalia Kochanova drew attention to the fact that Belarus and Mongolia actively cooperate in various international organizations - the Non-Aligned Movement, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly

- We understand that the voice of parliamentarians should sound bright in defending the interests, sovereignty and independence of every country that wants to live by its own laws.

Natalia Kochanova also focused on cooperation between youth and women's organizations. In addition, the speaker of the Council of the Republic touched upon the topic of interregional, tourist, scientific, cultural and educational interaction.

- We are ready to cooperate in all areas, and are ready to promote it for the benefit of our peoples and our countries, Natalia Kochanova concluded.

- The key task for both the legislative and executive branches of government is to ensure the implementation of all large-scale agreements reached at the highest level, including today’s meeting with the Head of State. One of the main tools in this regard is the involvement of parliamentarians in the meetings of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, providing legal and political support for bilateral projects.

- Despite the fact that only 34 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Mongolia, our friendship has a longer term. Mongolia helped the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. Our great-grandfathers fought valiantly against fascism. This is our common memory that unites our peoples today.
