Hungary's prime minister may lose immunity over phone theft
The incident occurred in June 2024 in one of the clubs of Budapest after a conflict politician with a visitor who filmed him on the phone.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Hungary has filed a motion to suspend the parliamentary immunity of Prime Minister Peter Magyar. According to RIA Novosti, this is necessary for the investigation of the theft of the phone.
The incident occurred in June 2024 at a club in Budapest. Then Magyar entered into a verbal quarrel with the visitor for the fact that he took it off on a gadget. The prime minister took the phone, put it in his pocket and then threw it into the Danube.
At the time of the offence, Peter Magyar was a member of the European Parliament. The EP refused to deprive him of immunity at the request of Hungarian law enforcement officers. However, in May 2026, the politician became a member of the national parliament and headed the government, which allowed the prosecutor’s office to resume an attempt to lift immunity already inside the countries.
