Joint projects and agreements. Results of the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Algeria

On behalf of the President, an official visit of the Belarusian delegation headed by Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova and Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich to Algeria took place. The delegation also included representatives of relevant ministries, departments and leading domestic enterprises. The key event of the program was a series of negotiations with the top leadership of the country. In particular, meetings were held with the President, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council of Nations of Algeria, during which prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation were discussed.

The central event of the program was the meeting of the Belarusian delegation with the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmajid Tebbun. During the meeting, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic noted that the current visit to Algeria was a direct development of the official visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in December 2025. Natalia Kochanova stressed that the decisions taken by the Belarusian Head of State, the Joint Statement on Friendship and Partnership, as well as the signed intergovernmental roadmap for 2026-2027 laid a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation. Our main task today is to compare approaches and speed up the implementation of the roadmap for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation in industry, agriculture, healthcare and education. Natalia Kochanova noted that the agreements of the leaders of the two countries are already being converted into concrete financial results

- If we talk about the results of this visit, contracts worth $ 18 million have already been signed, which will be implemented in the near future. We are absolutely ready to cooperate in all areas, but above all we must effectively and promptly implement the strategic vector outlined by the presidents of our states.

After a meeting with journalists, the Speaker of the Council of the Republic said:

- It is important for us that we cooperate with Algeria, including on international platforms, where we support each other in key positions. First of all, it is the preservation of peace, sovereignty and independence of our countries. We have a complete understanding in this regard. We hope to strengthen political and inter-parliamentary contacts, as well as the return visit of the President of Algeria to Belarus. He is deeply immersed in all areas of bilateral cooperation and confirmed Algeria's readiness to cooperate more closely with our country. For our part, we will do everything to ensure that this is implemented quickly and efficiently. For the benefit of our people and our countries. The result of the delegation’s negotiations with the Chairman of the Council of Nations of Algeria, Azuzu Nasri, was a package of concrete decisions on the practical implementation of all points of the interstate roadmap. The parties reached the final stage of preparation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Council of the Republic and the Council of Nations, the chairman of which was given an official invitation to visit Belarus. Interregional partnership will also receive a practical impetus – the parties are launching direct horizontal ties between the Belarusian regions and the Algerian provinces. During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on public diplomacy. As the Chamber of Territorial Representation, we attach special importance to building direct contacts between the provinces of Algeria and the regions of Belarus. This is popular diplomacy, which always gives a powerful result, said Natalia Kochanova. No less important is the vector of public relations – through women’s and youth organizations. The Youth Council is successfully functioning at the Council of the Republic, and we are sincerely interested in the fact that the youth of our countries actively communicate, befriend and deeply know the history of their countries.

Azuz Nasri noted the key role of parliaments in stimulating business activity. The speaker of the Council of Nations stressed that comprehensive system support of the roadmap will allow domestic and Algerian enterprises to enter into practical contracts as quickly as possible

- We are ready to provide full legislative assistance to increase commodity flows, develop industrial cooperation and build long-term economic ties. The final chord in the series of negotiations was a meeting with the Prime Minister of Algeria Sifi Grieb, during which the parties discussed the deepening of trade and economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of agriculture. Belarus is an export-oriented economy, Natalia Kochanova explained. We are one of the leading exporters of potash fertilizers, agricultural and automotive equipment, food products. Belarus exports more than $10 billion worth of food products to the world market. We are interested in intensifying our trade and economic cooperation. The Speaker of the Council of the Republic recalled that the leaders set the bar at $ 500 million in trade turnover:

The basis of our exports to Algeria is dry whole and dry skim milk, soybean oil and sunflower oil. We propose to consider the possibility of expanding the list of Belarusian food products for supplies to the Algerian market through the assortment of dairy products, the organization of supplies of meat, confectionery and other products, including those with halal certificate. In turn, Belarus is interested in buying fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, olive oil, natural stone and other traditional Algerian goods from Algeria. From mutual supply to joint production Following the talks with journalists, Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich noted that a wide range of issues were discussed:

- During the visit of the Head of State in December 2025, a powerful impetus was given to the development of bilateral relations. The growth rate in trade and economic cooperation in the first half of this year is already significant. Our exports to Algeria are based on food and agricultural products. But this is just the beginning, we have a lot to do. Not only in the issue of mutually beneficial supplies, but also in the creation of a joint production of baby food. We also pay great attention to the supply of passenger, cargo and quarry equipment. In this matter, we adhere to an integrated approach - from the supply of equipment, personnel training and the creation of spare parts warehouses to the opening of assembly production with a certain level of localization.

Cooperation in light industry is also relevant. We have something to share with our friends from Algeria: the production of fabrics, leather raw materials, finished products, including special ones, which could be in demand in this market.

It is important that we touched upon the issues of training young people in our universities and cultural exchanges. All this will allow us to build clearer cooperation plans in the future.

We come to the Algerian market as friends. We come here with our own technologies, we are ready to create joint ventures and implement joint projects aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens.
