In London, a 12-year-old girl named Mia died after drinking a milkshake in a cafe. The drink was made in a dirty blender. The Independent writes about it.
The schoolgirl ordered a Twix cocktail. She quickly developed anaphylaxis. The girl later lost consciousness at her aunt's house. She was treated and transferred to the intensive care unit of Evelina London Children’s Hospital, but was not rescued.
Experts found that the death occurred due to a severe allergic reaction to hazelnuts. The investigation revealed that the drink got the remains of nuts from the previous order Kinder Bueno.
Camera records showed the cafe employee had not washed the blender before cooking. In January 2025, the man pleaded guilty to six charges. He was fined £18,000 and given 100 hours of community service.
The girl's parents said they hoped to push for changes to food allergen control rules. They want to prevent such tragedies.
