October 12, the Orthodox world honors the memory of the Monk Theophanes the Merciful
On October 12, the church remembers the Monk Theophanes, who distributed his property and survived a serious illness

The saint lived in the Syrian city of Gaza and was famous for his mercy. He did not just occasionally help the needy, the strangers and the sick, but gave them everything he had. As a result, Theophan remained in complete poverty, but never regretted his lost wealth, rejoicing at the opportunity to serve his neighbors.
However, fate prepared for him another, much more severe test. The righteous fell seriously ill. His body was covered with ulcers, smoldered and gave off a heavy smell. He endured the disease with amazing calmness, incessantly thanking God for everything.
As the hour of death approached, a strong storm played out in the street. The wife of Theophan cried in despair, fearing that the elements would not allow her husband to be properly buried. But the saint consoled her, saying that the earthly trials were ending, and with his last breath the storm would subside by the will of the Most High. As soon as the soul of the righteous departed to God, absolute silence reigned on earth and in heaven.
When the neighbors came to wash the body, the first miracle awaited them: not a single wound or trace of ulcers remained on the skin. Four days after his death, Theophanes appeared in a dream to one of the believers and asked to open his tomb. What was the astonishment of people, when instead of the expected corruption from the relics, a wonderful fragrance spread, and instead of pus, a healing myrrh began to flow out. This myrrh healed the sick who came with faith in the cancer of the saint.
The story of Theophanes of Gaz reminds us that true mercy and patience are never without the highest reward.
October 12 celebrate the name day Ivan and Feofan.
