Fort Boyard on the Atlantic coast of France is planned to open to visitors in 2028 after the completion of a large-scale restoration, BFMTV reports, citing authorities of the Department of Primorsk Charente.
The fort, built in the XIX century and became famous thanks to the TV show of the same name, is under threat of destruction due to erosion, waves and sea currents.
Restoration work began in 2025. The project provides for the restoration of the protective structure at the base of the fort, the reconstruction of the pier and breakwater, as well as the creation of structures that will reduce the energy of waves and protect the foundation of the building.
Fort Boyard is located in the Strait of Antiosh, between the islands of Aix and Olero. Its construction began in 1801 by order of Napoleon Bonaparte and was completed in 1857.
After the completion of the work, the authorities plan to organize excursions around the fort for tourists. The exact conditions of the visit have not yet been disclosed.
In the summer of 2021, the STC channel with the Fort Boyard project became one of the first Russian broadcasters from the pandemic 2020 to receive the right to work abroad. In 2021, Fort Boyard was the only CTC project filmed abroad.
STS first showed Fort Boyard in 2019, before that, Russian versions of this adventure show were released at different times on NTV and Channel One. For CTC, the program has become one of the most successful projects: according to Mediascope, in 2019, the average share of all Fort Boyard issues in the target audience of CTC (viewers 10–45 years old) was 21%, while the average daily share of the entire channel was almost twice lower – only 12.9%. The new season in 2020 due to the pandemic did not take place.
