In universities appreciated the proposals of the Ministry of education on the rules of admission

The Ministry of education proposed a reform of admission to universities from 2027/28 academic year. The new rules could cancel the multidisciplinary competition and introduce a bonus system for additional exams and special achievements. Representatives of universities on the air of Radio RBC told about their attitude to innovations.

Director of the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) named after A.N. Tikhonov, Vice-Rector of HSE Dmitry Kovalenko drew attention to the fact that the Ministry of Education and Science often changes the order of admission to universities. The changes proposed by the agency this time, he called very useful, but indicated that some will be adjusted.

“It is positive that subjects are clearly correctly assigned to certain groups of specialties. Of course, if children enter engineering, for example, specialties, it is strange to do without physics, although some universities went along this path, he said.

Kovalenko also believes that the cancellation of the multidisciplinary competition will not affect a large number of applicants, since they will immediately understand their future specialty.

Executive Secretary of the admission committee of Bauman Moscow State Technical University Ivan Sidelnikov also called the changes in the admission rules positive. According to him, today there is a big problem in school education, as pupils from the 9th grade focus on specific subjects and stop learning comprehensively.

And in the end, it turns out that the child knows, for example, physics, computer science and mathematics. But at the same time, it is, firstly, not complexly developed, not organically developed. He does not have a broad outlook, in fact, which is the essence of school education in general, he explained.

Sidelnikov said that the current changes proposed by the Ministry of Education and Science will not have a significant impact on applicants when applying.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia has prepared changes to the procedure for admission to universities, the initiative is published on the portal of draft normative legal acts. If approved, the new rules will come into force from the 2027/28 academic year and will cover key aspects, from the mandatory list of exams to the system of accruing additional points.

The agency plans to tighten the requirements for profile subjects. The number of fields where physics is considered a mandatory subject will increase to 37. History will become a mandatory exam where universities previously had the right to choose between it and social studies. Mathematics will become mandatory for admission to all specialties related to information security.

In addition, a multidisciplinary competition will be canceled - applicants will compete for places for specific specialties or areas.
