“I sincerely congratulate on the holiday, on the Teacher’s Day, all teachers, teachers of our country, all who give their strength, energy, knowledge to education and education of the younger generations,” Putin said.
The President recalled that since this year, the special status of the teacher has been fixed at the state level. This reflects public recognition of the teacher’s mission and guarantees teachers support and new opportunities for professional development.
“We are proud of the legacy created by previous generations, proud of the achievements of our contemporaries and understand that the basis of any success, victories and achievements is the work of a teacher,” Putin said.
Putin expressed confidence that no matter what new technologies come to schools, the teacher’s personality, respect and appreciation for his work will remain unchanged.
The President wished teachers and their loved ones health and well-being.
Teacher’s Day is celebrated annually in Russia on October 5. Professional holiday appeared in the USSR in 1965 and originally fell on the first Sunday of October. In 1994, after the establishment of UNESCO World Teachers Day, the date of celebration in Russia was postponed to October 5. In 1966, UNESCO and the International Labour Organization adopted recommendations on the status of teachers.
