The bear attacked 81-year-old fisherman in the Irkutsk region. The man was injured hands and body, said the press service of the GU MIA of Russia in the region.
The incident occurred in an inaccessible area on the Kirenga River near the village of Chinonga.
“It is known that the bear attacked a local resident engaged in fishing, when the man moored to the shore and unloaded the boat. The pensioner was able to fight off the beast, climb into the boat and sail away, the statement said.
The circumstances of the incident are checked by employees of the inter-municipal department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia “Kachugsky”.
The police warned about the danger of encounters with bears – reports of predator activity come from different areas of the Irkutsk region. Residents were urged to limit trips to the forest and observe security measures.
Earlier, on October 2 and 4, two people died in the Irkutsk region during a bear attack. In the Ust-Ilimsky district, the predator attacked a 71-year-old man, and in the Kazachinsk-Lensky district – a 55-year-old employee of the enterprise. In both cases, the Investigative Committee conducts inspections.
As previously explained to RBC ecologist and public figure Yaroslav Ditsevich, bears began to come out to people more often because of the lack of natural food — in search of food they approach settlements. Animals are also attracted to human-made food sources, such as waste in garbage cans.
