British writer and former politician Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86, the BBC reports, citing HarperCollins.

Archer died Monday at home "suddenly and peacefully" between writing sessions.
During his fifty-year career, he sold more than 300 million books. His most famous works include Cain and Abel and The Clifton Chronicles.
Archer was born on 15 April 1940 in north London. In 1969, he was elected to the House of Commons for Lauth County, five years later he left Parliament and later became deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. Archer joined the House of Lords in 1992 and remained a member until he retired in 2024.
