In Magadan, the authorities began checking due to the possible appearance of a bear in the city cemetery. The head of the Department of housing and communal infrastructure Ekaterina Kramnik told IS “Vesti” that after publications in the media it became known about damage to the grave of a recently buried woman. Nothing was found near the grave.
“It is not yet known whether it is a bear or some act of vandalism,” Kramnik said.
In addition, the environmental prosecutor's office of the Magadan region is conducting an inspection.
“According to the information of the Magadan mayor’s office, when establishing the threat of a brown bear in the cemetery, citizens’ access to the territory may be limited,” the press service of the environmental prosecutor’s office noted.
Earlier in social networks and messengers there were reports that the relatives of the deceased found an excavated grave and traces of a large animal nearby.
In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) shot 188 brown bears since the beginning of measures to regulate their numbers. The Ministry of Ecology of the Republic said that the liquidated wild animals posed a real threat to people.
The Russian government is preparing changes to the regulatory framework so that regions can more quickly regulate the population of brown bears, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said.
