The collapse occurred on Dogu Street in the Jevizli quarter, the first three floors of the building were destroyed. Firefighters, rescuers, police and medics arrived at the scene.
Five people were rescued from the rubble, they were hospitalized with injuries. Among the rescued was a 14-year-old child, his life is not in danger. Ten more people were evacuated from the upper floors of the building.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said the house was built in 1987. There are 12 apartments in the building. According to official data, 33 people lived in the house. In the collapse suffered four apartments, where 14 residents are registered. Two of them were away at the time of the incident.
On the first floor of the building there was a workshop, in which at the time of the collapse there was no one.
The prosecutor's office began an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. The Turkish Interior Ministry has appointed two inspectors to check whether officials have committed violations in the design, construction and repair of the building.
In March, two houses next to each other collapsed in Istanbul’s Fatih district, AHaber said. According to Istanbul Governor Davut Gul, the cause was an explosion of natural gas in one of the buildings, which led to the collapse of the neighboring. Under the rubble were nine people, seven were taken to the hospital.
