In the Brazilian city of Salvador detained a Russian citizen wanted by Interpol, said the Secretariat of public security of Bahia. According to the agency, the man tried to sell weapons and ammunition to Brazilian criminal groups.
The arrest took place on the morning of October 10 in the Aguas Claras area as part of Operation Artemis. It was conducted by the Joint Organized Crime Unit of the State of Bahia (FICCO) with the support of the military police and in collaboration with Interpol. Before arriving in Bahia, the man visited other Brazilian states.
According to preliminary information of the Ministry, the Russian intended to create in Brazil a network of distribution of weapons, ammunition and drugs. He was wanted on an Interpol red notice. In Russia, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for drug trafficking and the use of a forged document. His name hasn't been disclosed.
After the arrest, the Russian was taken to the Federal Police Department in Salvador. The authorities announced preparations for cooperation with the Russian judicial authorities for the extradition procedure.
