Judging by the footage, the man was able to get out of the cab of a truck on a street clogged with abandoned cars. Due to the powerful flow of water that was on the road, the truck, along with the man, led away from the road, where the driver was able to grab a tree and climb it.
According to the Associated Press (AP), citing Chilean authorities, on Thursday, October 8, heavy rains hit the Chilean capital Santiago and the surrounding area, which caused landslides that swept away cars in the streets. Water flooded homes and forced local residents to evacuate.
In a commune in Santiago, Chilean President Jose Antonio Cast declared a state of emergency when rains turned key roads into impassable waterways.
In addition, due to bad weather, the river Mapocho flowing through the capital of Chile overflowed its banks.
According to authorities, 2015 houses were damaged due to the rain, 55 of which became uninhabitable. The Prosecutor’s office began an investigation into the actions of the regional authorities.
Alicia Cebrian, head of the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), said 118 people were injured and six were injured as a result of bad weather in Chile.
