In Buryatia over the past week shot 51 bears, representing a threat to people. This was reported by Burprirodnadzor.
“Over the past week, Burprirodnadzor received 85 appeals about bears entering settlements. State hunting inspectors together with brigades of hunters worked out all appeals, conducted a survey of the areas. As a result of the activities, 51 bears were regulated, the report said.
Bears went to settlements or were near them in the North Baikal, Kurumkan, Bichur, Kaban, Ivolginsky, Zakamensky, Barguzinsky, Pribaikal, Zaigraevsky, Selenginsky and Jidinsky districts of Buryatia. Cases were also recorded in Severobaikalsk and Zakamensk.
In total, 397 bears were shot during the events in the republic. Burprirodnadzor urged residents to be careful and refrain from going to the forest.
In recent months, bears in different regions of Russia have become more likely to go to settlements and approach places where people are. Experts attribute this, among other things, to the lack of natural food - in search of food, animals enter the territory of settlements.
Earlier, on September 14, Burprirodnadzor received 32 appeals about the output of bears to people. State hunters inspectors together with hunters made 32 trips to the suburbs of Ulan-Ude and the regions of the republic. As a result, 14 bears were eliminated. Later, on September 18, Burprirodnadzor received 28 appeals about the exit of bears in the settlements of Buryatia. As a result, 11 bears were shot.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, in 2026 there are about 308 thousand brown bears in the country. Since 1990, their numbers have more than doubled.
