To deliver the order, the courier needs to know the recipient’s phone number and address, so the requirement to name any code may indicate an attempt at fraud. This was reported in an interview with TASS by the head of the press service of the GU MIA of Russia in Moscow Vladimir Vasenin.
“No courier ever calls recipients or asks for any code. The courier is always enough of your phone number and address in order to carry out the delivery, he said.
According to Vasenin, before the holidays, fraudsters often pose as employees of well-known delivery services, hoping that people are waiting for gifts or parcels. They report the allegedly upcoming delivery of the order and ask to name the code from the message or confirm personal data under the pretext of delivery.
He called for special vigilance before the holidays, when fraudsters can take advantage of the expectation of gifts and flowers from loved ones.
One of the common schemes of fraud on the sites of free ads is the sale of non-existent goods and services. Such crimes account for about 46% of cases of deception on such resources, reported in the cyber police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in September 2025.
