“Gazprom-Media Holding”, the company “Mediaslovo” and writer, screenwriter and producer Sergey Minaev announced the launch of a full-length film based on the work of ancient Russian literature “The Word about Igor’s regiment”. The premiere of the picture is scheduled for autumn 2028.

The plot will be based on the campaign of Prince Igor Svyatoslavich against the Polovtsy. The story will touch on themes of courage, betrayal, love and unity in the face of a common threat. According to the authors, the personal ambitions of the princes and their decisions will affect the fate of people. It will also show how disunity “puts at risk” an entire country.

General Director of Gazprom-Media Holding Alexander Zharov called the work part of “our cultural code”.

I am sure that the language of modern cinema will once again help to experience strong emotions and believe in the victory of millions of viewers. Our united team will do everything to make the work of the XII century sound young, modern and exciting, said Zharov.

According to Sergey Minayev, he discussed the idea of film adaptation with Zharov about four years ago. During this time, the team worked out the images of the heroes and the dramatic lines of the future film.

The project will continue cooperation between Gazprom-Media Holding and Mediaslovo. Among their joint works are the musical fairy tale “Alice in Wonderland”, which collected more than 1.2 billion rubles in the Russian box office, and the mystical action “The Secret City” based on the books of Vadim Panov. For Minaev, the film will be a continuation of work with historical themes. Earlier, with the participation of the holding, his documentary projects “History of Russia”, “Nineties”, “Zero”, “Color of History” and “Lessons of War” were published.

In January, the head of Gazprom-Media holding Alexander Zharov, answering a question from RBC, said that Russian cinema should include state orders. Zharov recalled that in the USSR there was a structure - Goskino, which planned those topics that were interesting and important for the state.

In addition, in February 2027, the film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel “War and Peace” directed by Sarik Andreasyan (“Onegin”, “Kuzya’s Home”) will be released in a wide Russian release. The authors, as told by RBC Life in the press service of the company "Atmosphere of Cinema", are not going to rethink, but to recreate the world of Leo Tolstoy "in its authentic sound", "with respect for the text, era and characters." Events, as in the book, will unfold in Russia at the beginning of the XIX century, when the fate of representatives of the aristocracy are intertwined with the events of the Patriotic War of 1812.
