Pope Leo XIV successfully underwent surgery on the lung, the press service of the Vatican reports.
As the pontiff himself said earlier, during the examination, doctors found a nodal formation in his lung. “It was detected at a very early stage and is well localized. The doctors consider it appropriate to conduct an intervention, so following their recommendations, I decided to have an operation to remove it, explained Leo XIV.
Leo XIV was the first pope in history from the United States. He was elected last May.
The pontiff leads an active lifestyle: every week he plays tennis and swims in the summer papal residence in Castel Gandolfo.
